For Nannies: How to Land a High-Compensation Nanny Role
Real talk from your biggest advocate (and honest friend) at The Natural Nanny Collective
You’re here because you're not just looking for a job—you’re building a career. And not just any career. You want to work with families who value what you bring to the table. Families who see you as a trusted professional, not just an extra set of hands.
Here’s what you need to know to stand out and land those high-level, well-paying, professionally structured roles—because families who pay well expect a lot, and you deserve to be prepared to meet that bar.
✍️ Your Bio: The Deal-Maker (or Deal-Breaker)
Let’s start with the most overlooked (and most important) part of your profile: your bio.
Your bio is not the place to say “I love kids :)” and call it a day. This is your personal brand. It's your handshake, your pitch, and your highlight reel. A strong bio makes us excited to send your profile to top-tier families. A vague or sloppy one? It usually means we can’t.
🔥 What to include in your nanny bio:
A strong opening line that reflects confidence
→ Not: “Hi, my name is Katie and I’m nice.”
→ Try: “I’m a career nanny with 6+ years of experience supporting busy families with children ages newborn to 10.”Specifics about your experience
→ “Over the past several years, I’ve worked with children in a variety of stages, including infant sleep training, preschool readiness, and school-age structure. I specialize in creating nurturing, low-tech, engaging environments.”Your childcare philosophy
→ Are you Montessori-aligned? Love nature-based play? Thrive in highly structured environments? Say it. Families are looking for alignment, not generic.Professionalism, certifications, and soft skills
→ “I hold current CPR/First Aid certifications, am fully vaccinated, and pride myself on strong communication, proactive scheduling, and being a calm presence in busy households.”And please… get specific.
Do you have a dog or cat? Great—so does everyone else.
Families aren’t hiring you because you like animals or kids. They’re hiring you because of how you work with them. So rather than saying, “I love pets and kids!” try this:
→ “In my last role, I supported a family with a 2-year-old and a high-energy Labrador. I built a daily routine that included sensory play, walks to the park, and teaching the child how to help feed the dog—building early responsibility and connection.”
Or:
→ “One of my favorite nanny moments was when I helped a family potty-train their twins in under 10 days using a custom sticker chart and a lot of laughter. I still get updates on how proud they are of their progress!”
These personal touches are what make you memorable—and relatable.
🚨 Also: SPELLING COUNTS
It sounds harsh, but it’s true:
If there’s a spelling mistake on your profile, you may be immediately out of the running.
Professional families paying premium rates expect flawless communication. If your profile has errors, they’ll assume that’s how you’ll manage their home. It matters.
✔️ Run it through spellcheck.
✔️ Read it out loud.
✔️ Ask a friend to proofread.
This is a professional job. And yes, top-notch employers expect top-notch candidates.
📸 Your Photo: It’s Not Vain, It’s Strategic
You don’t need to be a supermodel. But your photo should communicate: “I take myself—and this work—seriously.”
That means:
Clear lighting (natural light is best)
Neutral background (no laundry, no car seats, no clutter)
Friendly, clean appearance
Professional attire (even if casual—think solid colors, nothing distracting)
Do not upload a party selfie, crop out a friend, or use something outdated. If the photo could also be added to your dating profile then it’s probably not a good fit for a professional resume/profile. Families are hiring someone to come into their home and be with their most cherished possessions. Your presentation matters.
🧠 Proof of Professionalism: Details Matter
These are professional roles. When families are trusting you with their children, household routines, and sometimes even travel, they want to see:
Responsiveness – If you’re asked a follow-up question, answer it thoroughly and quickly.
Grammar and tone – Even in text or email, avoid slang. Be warm and professional.
Polished resume/profile – Use formatting. Use bullet points. Avoid huge blocks of text. Include all certifications and trainings.
References ready – Having your references confirmed and ready to go shows you’re prepared and transparent.

💡 What If You Don’t Get the Job?
Please hear this: not landing one role doesn’t mean you’re not amazing.
Many of our high-compensation jobs receive 100+ applicants. That family might have been looking for someone bilingual, someone available to travel, or someone who already had experience with twins. It doesn’t mean you weren’t qualified—it just wasn’t the right fit.
Families are very specific. Our job is to match those specifics—but sometimes it's a close call. Keep showing up with intention and professionalism, and your perfect match is coming.
💬 Final Thoughts: Act Like the Role You Want
If you want to work with families who pay well, treat you respectfully, and see you as a professional—show up like one from the start.
That means:
A polished profile
Clean, confident photo
Professional communication
Well-written, thoughtful bio
Relevant certifications
A clear understanding of your strengths and the kind of family that suits you
You're not just applying to “watch kids.” You are offering your expertise, emotional intelligence, stability, and trust. Families are investing in you—so show them why they should.
